This is a paid plugin but with kdjfsk weighing in on Guitar Rig, I feel compelled to mention that I prefer/use Amplitube 4 because they've licensed name brands I like in Orange and Mesa/Boogie, but I'm using them in the context of soft synths and haven't been terribly impressed (that could be largely due to my incompetence).
